Catherine Celeste Bliss was born in Topeka on Aug. 16, 1969.She graduated from Atwood High, 1988; varsity athlete, cheerleader, singer, musician. She attended Colby Community College; student council president, band member, singer, cheerleader. Graduated with music degree. She married Kip �Loy� Johnson. They attended Kansas State University and she earned a music education degree. After KSU, they moved to Topeka. Celeste juggled three managerial jobs as Kip earned his law degree. They settled in Ellis to raise their family. Celeste was a fierce advocate for her daughters and the town. Among her many gifts to the community, she helped start the local thrift shop, volunteered, coached, taught at Ellis schools, wrote grants and spearheaded the completion of parks and volunteered with at-risk teenage moms.Celeste is survived by daughters Ashton and Aiden Johnson; siblings, Breon Bliss, Maureen Sharp and Alec Bliss; grandmother, Helen Neill; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a slew of friends.Visitation: Sunday, March 12, with family viewing from 2-3 p.m., open viewing from 3-6 p.m. and rosary at 6 p.m. at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, Colby.Services: 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.Condolences: kersenbrock funeralchapel.com.

Eugene "Gene" Goodson

Gene was born on June 7, 1930 in Texarkana, Texas, to Lucien R. and Birdie Mae (Southerland) Goodson.Gene was a U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly serving during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Johnson and was married for 63 blissful years. Gene was a retired electrician from IBEW and loved his job.Among his many activities Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing, wood crafting and craft shows. Gene was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the American Legion where he served as commander, the 40 et 8 where he served as Chef and he was a volunteer fireman for Mifflin Township fire department for ten years.He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Goodson; two loving sons, Scott, of Perrysville, and Brian Goodson, of Columbus; brother, Jimmy Goodson; and sister, Helen Hildebrand; step-brothers, Erwin and Lloyd Dale Erwin; step-sister, Loy Helen McDonald; sister-in-law, Glenda Goodson; and numerous nieces and nephews.Gene is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, William, Lucien R. Jr., Eli, and infant twin brothers; sisters, Dorothy and Molly; step mother, Nora Goodson; and son, Steven Eugene.The family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. An additional hour of calling will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017 with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.Gene will be laid to rest at Mansfield Memorial Park.
